BEIJING — ChatGPT-like artificial intelligence is speeding up research and bringing humanoid robots closer to reality in China, home to many of the world's factories. What's changed with the emergence of OpenAI's ChatGPT chatbot is the ability of AI to better understand and generate content in a human-like way. While the U.S.-based tech is not officially available in China, local companies such as Baidu have released similar chatbots and AI models. In robotics, the development of generative AI can help machines with understanding and perceiving their environment, said Li Zhang, chief operating officer of Shenzhen-based LimX Dynamics. "It has accelerated our entire research and development cycle," he said.

Another user named Nicole, for example, asked DAN to act like her boyfriend while her real-life one was out of town. Around 16% of young women confirmed flirting with a chatbot, while 13.4% said they had formed a friendship with one. "The more authentic and human AI can sound, the greater the possibility of a human developing feelings for it," she said.

CNN —After Japanese author Rie Kudan won one of the country’s most prestigious literary awards, she admitted she’d had help from an unusual source — ChatGPT. The author then confirmed at a press conference that around 5% of her book “The Tokyo Tower of Sympathy” — which was lauded by committee members as “practically flawless” — was word-for-word generated by AI. The novel centers around the dilemmas of an architect tasked with building a comfortable high-rise prison in Tokyo where law breakers are rehabilitated, and features AI as a theme. Kudan said that, in her own life, she would consult ChatGPT about problems she felt she couldn’t tell anyone. “It seems that the story that Rie Kudan’s award-winning work was written using generative AI is misunderstood… If you read it, you will see that the generative AI was mentioned in the work,” he wrote.

The steps will apply specifically to OpenAI, only one player in an expanding universe of companies developing advanced generative AI tools. Starting “early this year,” OpenAI said, it will digitally watermark AI images created using its DALL-E image generator. “Will there be items that slip through the cracks?”OpenAI's ChatGPT and DALL-E are some of the most powerful generative AI tools to date. But there are many companies with similarly sophisticated technology that don't have as many election misinformation safeguards in place. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said that even with all of his company’s safeguards in place, his mind is not at ease.

Those beliefs are known to have caused medical providers to rate Black patients’ pain lower, misdiagnose health concerns and recommend less relief. “I believe technology can really provide shared prosperity and I believe it can help to close the gaps we have in health care delivery,” Omiye said. In 2019, for example, academic researchers revealed that a large hospital in the United States was employing an algorithm that systematically privileged white patients over Black patients. It was later revealed the same algorithm was being used to predict the health care needs of 70 million patients nationwide. In June, another study found racial bias built into commonly used computer software to test lung function was likely leading to fewer Black patients getting care for breathing problems.

This post originally appeared in the Insider Today newsletter. In today's big story, former Goldman Sachs partners explain what led them to leave their prestigious positions within the bank. A recent Insider investigation by Dakin Campbell and Emmalyse Brownstein found that at least 202 partners have left the firm during CEO David Solomon's volatile five-year tenure. And while Solomon's strategic missteps were a key talking point for many, not all the former partners bashed the CEO. Simply input a prompt and watch the travel recommendations pour in. Intrepid Travel, a small group travel agency, accepted CNBC Travel's request to find out. Intrepid Travel, on the other hand, provided options that came with either a pool or a gym, or both. Conversely, I felt that Intrepid Travel suggested places that were more niche and representative of Melbourne's unique culture. Both Intrepid Travel and ChatGPT came back with reasonable options around the city.

An Iowa school district asked ChatGPT if a list of books "contain a description or depiction of a sex act." In an effort to decide what books to ban from school libraries, an Iowa school district asked ChatGPT whether a list of books contained a description or depiction of an explicit act. When ChatGPT replied that 19 books did indeed contain such scenes, the school district banned 19 books, various news outlets reported this week. We asked ChatGPT the same question three times, and it gave us three very different answers. Of the 19 books removed by the Mason City school district, 17 have been reviewed by age-rating nonprofit Common Sense Media.

Researchers have also sought to quantify fairness and bias in AI models through various socio-ethnic parameters. For example, Stanford University's artificial intelligence index report scores for bias across AI models. It found a "counterintuitive" correlation between fairness and bias: models that scored better on fairness metrics demonstrated stronger gender bias, and less gender-biased models were more toxic. Some investors believe AI itself can help investors monitor and track ESG efforts by companies.
Boston Dynamic's robot dogs can now speak thanks to OpenAI's ChatGPT, Fast Company reported. Boston Dynamics' robotic dogs may not be able to bark — but they can speak in complete sentences, thanks to generative AI. Using Google Assistant's voice technology, ChatGPT gives the robot dogs the ability to understand and respond to humans face-to-face. When asked a question about the robot's tasks, ChatGPT can interpret it and formulate an answer by analyzing the robot's data, he said. A demonstration of these robot dogs shows they are are capable of answering verbal questions in a clear way.

Experts found the chatbot's responses to patient questions were higher quality and more empathetic. ChatGPT can still make grave medical errors, but this study suggests AI may improve upon a doctor's bedside manner. ChatGPT may be just as good as doctors — if not better — at responding to patients' medical questions, according to a new study. The chatbot's responses were rated 3.6-times higher in quality and 9.8-times higher in empathy than those of the physicians. But ChatGPT can still make mistakes and misdiagnose, which is why doctors are cautious about letting it loose to patients at home.
A new, more efficient system is taking shape that incorporates ESG standards into the bedrock of stock valuations, he said. ESG investing as a separate entity could be on its way out, but the approach was wrong to begin with, said Jenkins. Instead, a confluence of political, geopolitical and market events has severely damaged interest in ESG investing. Increased scrutiny also played into political differences around ESG investing and opened the door to vocal critics. Responsible investing funds also came up against mighty economic headwinds last year.
This is the first time search engines are in legitimate competition — with all thanks to ChatGPT for the plot twist. Now, the chatbot is integrated in Bing and gives the search engine its first fighting chance against Google. Microsoft for now has a "first-mover" advantage, meaning its first-ever AI search engine can attract a large share of users. More on the first-ever search engine race here. Tech workers with skills in Web3, AI, and cybersecurity remain in high demand.
Here's how the chatbot could impact six different areas of Wall Street. Experts have predicted ChatGPT's impact on a variety of industries, and it appears Wall Street will be no exception. ChatGPT has the capacity eventually to replace humans in certain roles, according to some, but the realization rests in the customers' hands. But while you mull on whether or not to pay attention to ChatGPT on Wall Street, some are already putting the tech to work. Insider spoke to five industry experts to get their take on how ChatGPT and its underlying tech could be applied to various sectors of financial services.
Wharton professor Christian Terwiesch tested ChatGPT with questions from his final exam. Terwiesch found that ChatGPT could answer basic questions well but sometimes made "surprising mistakes" in simple calculations. Terwiesch concluded that ChatGPT might earn a B or B- on his final exam. Based on an analysis of similar retailers, the founders expect to turn their inventory 1.5 times per year. Microsoft's $1 billion investment into OpenAI may be one of the shrewdest bets in tech history. OpenAI released AI bot ChatGPT and is in discussions to raise capital at a $30 billion valuation. "We believe Microsoft's investment in OpenAI will translate to significant underappreciated upside," Luria wrote. Investors may be souring on speculative tech but AI looks resilientThere is speculation that Microsoft may look to buy OpenAI. That suggests investors will still look to pile into the hottest AI companies, cementing the value of Microsoft's deal.
ChatGPT is a chatbot that relies upon artificial intelligence to generate text. The bot writes essays, poems, and can even be used as a search engine. Here's my take on using ChatGPT instead of Google for a day. It's called ChatGPT, which is a chatbot developed by an artificial intelligence company OpenAI. Here's what happened when I spent a day searching terms on ChatGPT.
ChatGPT — an artificial intelligence-powered chatbot — is having a viral moment, offering a high-profile glimpse at the maturing technology's capabilities. Like other GPT models, ChatGPT can generate text in a variety of styles and formats, including responses to questions, descriptions, and even entire conversations. The growth of Azure is central to our long-term investment thesis in Microsoft, and artificial intelligence is playing an increasingly prominent role in cloud computing. Additionally, Club holding Alphabet is no stranger to artificial intelligence — and, more specifically, machine learning. While all three models — ChatGPT, Sparrow and LaMDA — have their differences, they share a foundational network architecture known as Transformer.
